A man who pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of an 18 year-old in Prince  Albert nearly three years ago has been given an 11-year prison sentence.

Twenty-five-year-old Blake David Norman was sentenced in a Prince Albert courtroom yesterday for his involvement in the death of Dakota Nayneecassum of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation.

In September 2012, Nayneecassum was stabbed in a home in the city’s West Flat area.

He later died in hospital.

Norman will serve nearly seven years of his sentence after being given four years credit for time already served.

He is one of six people originally charged in Nayneecassum’s death.

Norman previously made headlines in 2009 after he pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal negligence causing death for his role in a fire in La Ronge.

The fire at the Lakeview Apartments claimed the lives of Justin Charles, Marsha MacKenzie and their four-month-old son Jeremy Charles.

He was sentenced in 2011 for this case to time served, along with two years’ probation.
