The Town of Creighton is getting $250,000 from the Nuclear Waste Management Organization for taking part in recent preliminary assessment studies.
The study found there was “limited” potential for a nuclear waste storage facility.
As a result, Creighton was dropped as a potential host site.
Some of the other places eligible to get investment money from the NWMO for “community well-being” include Denare Beach and Flin Flon.
Each eligible community will be required to establish a Community Well-Being Reserve Fund or similar mechanism to administer the funding.
The NWMO says well-being reserve funds could be used to support elders, youth, community sustainability, economic development and energy efficiency initiatives.
Pinehouse and the English River First Nation received similar funding after being initially considered as host sites.
They were dropped from the site selection process in 2013.
Nine Ontario communities are still in the running.
