Update From the Town of La Ronge: July 15, 2015 10 a.m.

Fire continued to threaten the Town of La Ronge overnight, advancing past the north end of the airport but not reaching the community itself.

Following a mandatory evacuation for the Town, fire crews – with help from a number of southern communities – patrolled the north edge of the town, while security monitored the evacuation.

The weather forecast is for cooler temperatures, but also a north wind, with only a chance of scattered rain. Air attack is still suppressed by smoke.

Access north of the Montreal River is restricted to essential personnel. There is also a general evacuation advisory for the neighbouring communities of Air Ronge and Lac La Ronge Indian Band as declared by local councils Saturday.

The Jonas Roberts Centre is open today for anyone still needing assistance.

Highway 2 southbound is open, but traffic northwards from Prince Albert to La Ronge is being limited to emergency services.

To the west, communities of Hall Lake, Sikachu and Clam Lake remain evacuated because of other fires in those areas.

Officials are also working fires very near Wadin Bay, Sucker River and Nemeiben to the north. Highway 102 north of La Ronge to those communities is closed to all traffic.

The resort areas of Napatak and Potato Lake to the south are not immediately threatened, but evacuation is still prudent.

Officials remind drivers to obey all check stops and barricades, as access to many areas is restricted to essential personnel.

The hospital is within the mandatory evacuation area, so health services has moved patients, and the emergency clinic is now operating out of the ambulance centre.

Emergency services are still available through 911.
