A worker received minor burns at AREVA’s McClean Lake uranium mill in northern Saskatchewan a week and a half ago.
According to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), the man was working on a high-temperature dryer when he came in contact with heated uranium product resulting in a minor injury.
AREVA spokeswoman Veronique Loewen confirmed the injury was a burn. The employee was taken to Saskatoon for treatment, and is still off work at present.
The nuclear regulator says no uranium was released into the environment as a result of this incident.
CNSC staff are reviewing AREVA’s initial reports and say corrective actions have been taken to prevent a similar occurrence.
The incident will also be talked about at an upcoming public meeting.
The site is located near Wollaston Lake.
