The First Nations University of Canada in Regina is undergoing a transformation of sorts.
Over the next few weeks, contractors will be doing some renovations on a shoestring budget. They will be making the most of existing facilities to increase classroom size and to improve the large common area on the main floor.
FNUniv spokesperson Racelle Kooy says the university’s board of directors saw the need for some change to make the university more efficient and student friendly. She says they are working with a limited budget but expect to get a lot done.
“We are doing our best to be smart and what we can do with our own facilities staff, they help out a bit,” she says. “Just being smart, making sure we get done what we need to get done.”
The main floor will include a large multi-function room that will be able to accommodate 100 people. Renovations have already started and will be complete by the time classes resume in September.
Students and staff at the university helped come up with the plans for the renovations.
