A Saskatoon Metis woman has had enough of the political scrapping taking place within the Metis Nation – Saskatchewan.
There isn’t a mediator alive who could resolve the situation, said Shirley Isbister, who spoke as a Metis citizen, but also happens to be the president of the Central Urban Metis Federation.
Isbister says the two factions led by MN-S president Robert Doucette and Vice President Gerald Morin are too far apart.
“I think that every one of them from the president all the way down to the PMC should be resigning from their positions,” says Isbister. “I think an interim committee should be set up to run the Metis Nation, an MNLA be called and let the grassroots people speak and then from there an election.”
Isbister made her comments following an announcement by a handful of Metis Nation local presidents calling for a general assembly.
The meeting is open to all Metis people on Saturday, September 26, to resolve the constitutional crisis.
Earlier this month a judge ruled the Provincial Metis Council did not ignore a court order to hold a Metis Nation Legislative Assembly.
In response, President Robert Doucette called for a meeting of the PMC to set a date for a Legislative Assembly the proposal was rejected by Vice President Gerald Morin in an email.
The local presidents making Friday’s call were not able to say how many other local presidents are on side with their proposed meeting.
