The University of Regina’s child care centres are doubling their capacity.
Education minister Don Morgan and the University of Regina vice chancellor Vianne Timmons were on hand for the grand opening Friday
The Awasis Child Care Centre can accommodate 90 children. It’s located in the brand new Kisik residential towers on campus. The title “Kisik” comes from the Saulteaux name for sky.
By next spring, that number of spots is expected to double.
University students with young kids will have an easier time finding childcare, as those spots are prioritized for children of university students. Spaces are also open to other Regina families.
The government pitched in with $1.34 million for the project.
