Conservation officers are still hoping to relocate a bear that has been living inside La Ronge lately.
Last week, a mother bear and her two cubs were destroyed in the northern town after losing their fear of humans.
A fourth bear, estimated to be about two years old, has been seen repeatedly near the town’s government building and is suspected of overturning garbage containers in downtown La Ronge.
Saskatchewan Environment’s Daryl Minter says it appears this fourth bear still has a fear of humans, as it retreats into the bushes anytime it’s seen.
“At this time, it’s not too much of a threat, this young bear. They’re more of a nuisance than anything,” he says. “However, you never know with bears, so it’s best if you do encounter it just increase your distance from the bear. Hopefully, the bear will continue to do the same thing and just run back into the bush.”
Minter says conservation officers are hoping the bear will walk into one of two traps that have been set.
