A former Prince Albert Grand Council vice-chief is looking to regain a spot in office.
In 2012, Fond du Lac’s Don Deranger had been Athabasca vice-chief for nine years (four terms) before he was defeated by Joseph “Smy” Tsannie of Hatchet Lake in the second ballot.
Incumbent Athabasca Vice-Chief Tsannie is running for a second term.
The third candidate is Colleen Whitedeer, a Fond du Lac band member. She is an Idle No More member and an anti-racism advocate.
This is her first run for the vice-chief title.
The field is a lot slimmer compared to the last Athabasca vice-chief election, when there were six candidates.
Elections will take place at PAGC’s annual assembly on October 26 and 27.
