Aboriginal voter turnout is expected to be one of the storylines in today’s federal election.

Several organizations have been working for months to mobilize the Aboriginal vote.

The Assembly of First Nations says there are 51 ridings across the country where Aboriginal voters could decide the outcome.

One of those ridings is in northern Saskatchewan, where most polls are predicting a very tight race.

Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River has been redrawn to include more Aboriginal communities — but it also had the lowest voter turnout among Saskatchewan ridings in the 2011 federal election.

However, Elections Canada says the number of voters in the riding who took advantage of advance polls over the Thanksgiving weekend was up 150 per cent over the last election.

Incumbent Tory MP Rob Clarke is being challenged by the NDP’s Georgina Jolibois, the Liberals’ Lawrence Joseph and the Green Party’s Warren Koch.

Clarke has represented the riding since 2008.
