Officials with SARCAN are working toward the opening of a new recycling facility in Buffalo Narrows.
Construction is underway and it is hoped residents of the region can begin using the facility in late January.
SARCAN spokesperson Sydney Smith says a recycling depot is needed for the 9,000 residents in that part of the province.
“In the northern communities we don’t have a lot of options, we only have the La Ronge and the Meadow Lake depots so we wanted to bring something to Buffalo Narrows so we can service our communities like La Loche, Clearwater and Buffalo Narrows itself,” Smith said.
Smith says the Buffalo Narrows SARCAN will be the 72nd in the province, and is expected to provide several year-round jobs.
“Our next step is going to be to hire a supervisor and staff to work at the depot and we’re expecting there to be quite a few job opportunities in the Buffalo Narrows area, we hire people of all abilities at SARCAN.”
The new recycling facility will accept beverage containers, paint and electronics, with a goal of reducing landfill waste.
