West Wind Aviation has expanded its fleet of aircraft and is ready to serve more communities in northern Saskatchewan.
The company has announced the purchase of a Beechcraft King Air 200, a pair of Beechcraft 1900s, and four de Havilland Twin Otters from Osprey Wings Aviation of La Ronge. The deal also includes two hangar facilities at the La Ronge Airport.
West Wind spokesperson Dennis Baranieski says the company will now be able to reach a larger area.
“We’ve had bases in Saskatoon and Stony Rapids and there was really that area in between those two centres that was being serviced by West Wind but this allows us to look after our customers in that central region of Saskatchewan from La Ronge right over to Buffalo Narrows and east over to the Manitoba border.”
Baranieski says the purchase also means more aircraft options for customers.
“Some different gauge of equipment like the Twin Otters which have not been in the West Wind fleet prior to this, another way of looking after our customers needs into smaller strips or more remote areas.”
Osprey’s former employees have also joined West Wind’s workforce, so the company now has about 300 employees.
