Changes are coming to the Lac La Ronge Indian Band’s election act.
During the next two weeks, consultation meetings will take place in several of the band’s communities.
The band’s election act consultant, Charles Whitecap, says potential candidates may have to pay a fee to run in the election.
“That’s something that’s being considered still,” he says. “Because there is quite a number that say they want it to happen and then about the same number say that maybe it shouldn’t happen.”
In the last band election in 2014, eight candidates were in the running for chief.
The first of six meeting gets underway this afternoon at the community hall at Grandmother’s Bay.
