The aunt of a murdered educator in La Loche has sent an open letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, pleading for immediate action.
Four people died, and seven others were wounded when a teen opened fire – first at a home then at the local high school. Among the dead was educational aid, Marie Janvier.
Her aunt Diane Janvier-Dugan wrote the prime minister an emotional letter saying the community is screaming for help. She says the mayor, the premier, and the local MP have shared nothing with members of the community.
She is calling on the prime minister to immediately set up a 24-hour crisis service in the community.
She has also launched a Go Fund Me campaign to try to raise $300,000 to build a new recreation centre for teens.
Janvier-Dugan says she does not feel the community is safe and she fears the already high teen suicide rate will sky rocket unless something positive happens soon.
