A 36-year-old woman who faced countless struggles throughout her life was found dead in La Ronge on Saturday morning.
The RCMP believe Tracy Nicole Bird’s death was not suspicious in nature. She was found in a wooded area of the community before 9:30 a.m.
Bird suffered greatly in her life. Nearly 10 years ago, her hair was set on fire while she was passed out behind a business in downtown La Ronge. Bird received third-degree burns to 65 per cent of her body.
A 12-year-old girl was responsible for the violent act, and was sentenced to two years of probation after a trial.
During the girl’s sentencing, Judge Wilfred Tucker said the act was impulsive, destructive, and “was encouraged by her mostly older peers and the circumstances.”
Wake services for Bird will start Monday night at 8 p.m. in La Ronge’s Kitsaki Hall and continue Tuesday in her home community of Montreal Lake.
Her funeral is set for 11 a.m. on Thursday at Montreal Lake’s Anglican Church.
