A man who’s charged with carrying a machete and chasing a woman down the street in Prince Albert is going to trial.

Raymond Knife, 34, has been in custody since August of last year, when there was a warrant out for his arrest. The warrant was related to an incident where a female victim was seen running past a Prince Albert business, being chased by two men.

After an interview with Prince Albert police in late July, the following charges were laid against Knife: confinement, assault with a cell phone and a book, uttering death threats, and carrying a machete with a dangerous intent.

Prince Albert police said it’s believed Knife had been in a relationship with the complainant.

When Knife was arrested a week later in Saskatoon, he was in possession a machete, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.

Last week, Knife entered a guilty plea on that charge and received a four-month, 14-day sentence. The Crown prosecutor on that case acknowledges that’s a fairly steep sentence for a charge like this, especially since in total Knife must serve seven months because he’s already been in prison for three months.

A month from now, Knife will go to trial for the late July incident in Prince Albert. The trial will also cover two further allegations that he’s broken a no-contact order with the female victim.

Raymond and Danny Knife are both facing charges in this case.
