The third and final Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations conference devoted to wealth creation kicked off in Saskatoon Wednesday morning.

All three conferences have been devoted to developing opportunity and wealth on reserve through land settlement claims.

The first conference was held in Saskatoon in December and focused on wealth creation through reserve creation and the next conference moved to Regina in February to explore ideas around legislative and policy options, which could be used to increase opportunities.

Wednesday’s final conference will focus on wealth creation through urban reserve creation.

FSIN vice-chief Robert Merasty says he’s been impressed on how participants have engaged in these conferences so far.

“These forums are about sitting down and utilizing our land and resources to enhance our opportunities,” says Merasty.

The vice-chief also says he hopes the partnerships formed between the FSIN and all other involved organizations will continue past the conferences.

“That’s our intent is to get people sitting around the table in a practical way and having engaging and meaningful discussions,” says Merasty.

Vice-Chief Merasty says based on the success these conferences have already had the FSIN hopes to hold similar conferences in the future.
