Representatives from Friends of Batoche Historic Site unveil the new logo for the Louis Riel Relay Days.
A new form of the Louis Riel Relay will be returning to Saskatchewan this summer.
While at Wanuskewin Heritage Park Friday afternoon representatives from the Friends of Batoche Historic Site announced the first ever Louis Riel Relay Days.
The weekend long event is a competitive relay running on August 20th and 21st at Batoche.
The relay will feature multi-participant teams competing in six different events including running, biking, hill hiking, canoeing, horseback riding and archery.
All of the events will take place at Batoche.
“The Batoche National Historic Site has such a great history to be told over and over in many different forums to be truly appreciated,” says President of Friends of Batoche Louise Tournier. “This event is a great way to re-live the important elements of our ancestors in a fun, festive and sociable way.”
Participants who wish to enter must register in advance and registrations are available online.
Event organzer Carissa Robb say the relay will aim to bring back the essence of the original Saskatchewan Louis Riel Relay that took place along the Saskatoon Riverbank throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s.
“It’s fabulous for Batoche and it is a great thing to offer people, so the can see and live the Metis culture,” says Robb.
Other weekend activities include an adventure race, 5km fun run, eating contest, bannock making, site tours and other traditional Metis activities.
All relay events will also be open to event guests to try at their leisure.
