Members of the local Canadian Rangers Patrol Group will be taking part in a wilderness survival training exercise in the La Ronge area this weekend.
This event is unique since it involves not only the Army and the Rangers, but also ten members of the RCMP.
Major Russ Meades, the Deputy Commander of the 4th CRPG says the idea is to pass along important outdoor survival skills.
“How to obtain water, how to obtain food, how to establish improvised shelter, how to signal for rescue, and of course the big one especially in the cold months, how to establish fire in the wilderness with improvised means”.
Meades says Brigadier-General Rob Roy Mckenzie, the senior Army Reserve member will also be making a visit to La Ronge this weekend to observe the training activities.
“He has quite a special meaning for us in the Canadian Rangers because he is also the Canadian Ranger national authority which is a position delegated to him by the Army Commander.”
The training is divided into several segments and runs from Friday until Sunday.
The Canadian Rangers will be sharing their outdoor skills with the participants.
