Earlier this week, the Saskatoon Tribal Council kicked off We Day Saskatchewan in a big way.
Several thousand youth made their way to the Sasktel Centre for the event and were immediately welcomed to Treaty 6 Territory by the STC Chiefs with the help of the Many Nations Dance group.
Tribal Chief Felix Thomas says the tribal council looks forward to the event every year.
“We have done it for a number of years and I would encourage other schools and First Nations to become a We Day school and participate,” says Chief Thomas. “It’s an experience like no other because you have over 15,000 children who are rocking the place, so bring your ear plugs.”
This year’s We Day Saskatchewan feature celebrity guest host Henry Winkler and author Joseph Boyden.
Also at the event was Brandon Sand from Mistawasis First Nation, who told his story about being the first Aboriginal student to take part in a six day, 250-kilometre run in Bolivia.
We Day is a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities.
