An organization which offers services to homeless people in La Ronge is again looking for funding to keep it’s operations going.
Since November the Scattered Sites Outreach Program has been opening at night, seven days a week, providing beds and meals.
Funding will run out at the end of March but they hope to extend the services into April when warmer weather arrives.
Executive Director Ron Woytowich says the long term goal is to find a full time permanent location, but that would be very expensive.
“We did look at a couple of buildings, but you’re looking at three-hundred thousand or four-hundred thousand and everyone would have to be upgraded to meet fire code”.
Right now the services are offered at the Scattered Sites building from 10 p.m. until 8.a.m. and the facility often reaches capacity.
Woytowich says they would like to open the doors in the evening earlier, starting at 8 p.m., but that would take more staff, and at any given time there are 50 to 60 people in La Ronge who fit into the category of “homeless.”
