SaskTel expects to complete a three-year, $30-million project to improve connectivity in northeastern Saskatchewan by the end of June.
The work is being done in partnership with Cameco and SaskPower.
SaskTel is building a fibre optics line from La Ronge to Points North Landing that will serve as the backbone infrastructure that the utility says will significantly increase the bandwidth available throughout the region.
The Crown corporation is also investing about $10 million in additional upgrades in Creighton and Denare Beach, and between Sandy Bay and Pelican Narrows.
SaskTel says these enhancements will increase the network capacity and resolve the current network congestion issues in all four communities, as well as Deschambault Lake.
The utility says the improvements will be noticed between the fall and the early part of next year.
