An Army officer originally from Saskatchewan is in Ottawa to receive a special commendation.
Master Warrant Officer Paul Lucas is being presented with a Meritorious Service Medal by Governor General David Johnston, for his work in getting Aboriginal people into the Canadian Armed Forces recruitment programs.
Lucas is a diversity officer who works out of Winnipeg, but also travels to northern Ontario and Nunavut.
Officials say he has brought in more than 100 applicants to various programs each year from 2005 to 2015.
Lucas has been in the Army since 1983 when he signed up as a recruit with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry.
