Legal action has begun against the Chief and Council of Cote First Nation as well as the law firm representing them.
A statement of claim was filed by three band members earlier this week at Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench on behalf of all band members.
The claim is seeking the recovery of funds from band trust monies that the plaintiffs claim were used for personal and business use by the band, its law firm, Cote Resources Limited and other defendants.
The claim is seeking the disclosure of all band resolutions and all audited and un-audited financial statements.
It is also seeking a court-ordered forensic audit on all trust monies owned collectively by the First Nation.
None of the allegations contained in the statement of claim have been proven in court.
Representatives from the Cote First Nation were not immediately available for comment.
