Investigators say they now consider the death of a Metis woman who went missing in the Shellbrook area a year ago to be suspicious in nature.

RCMP are releasing some details related to the night 22-year-old Danielle Nyland went missing.

She was last seen on the morning of June 8, 2015 in the Shellbrook/Holbein/Canwood area. The night Nyland went missing, she was wearing black tights and a black shirt with a very specific pattern: blue, pink and teal arrows and shapes.

Nyland attended a gathering in the East Flat area of Prince Albert on June 7. At 7:43 a.m. on June 8, a black Chevrolet Cruz with four passengers stopped at a business at the intersection of Highways 55 and 3 in Shellbrook.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m. June 8, the same Chevrolet Cruz stopped at the same business with only two passengers. Police located this vehicle in Prince Albert on June 9, 2015 as part of their ongoing investigation.

Nyland was reported missing on June 10, 2015. Multiple extensive searches took place and included “F” Division RCMP Air Services, civilian and RCMP Search and Rescue teams, Tactical Troop, Police Dog Service, and the Underwater Recovery Team.

Her remains were located in a secluded, wooded area east of Shellbrook on June 19, 2015 at 6:25 p.m. by RCMP searchers. Her cell phone was located 500 metres north of her remains.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North says it knows there are individuals who have information regarding Nylands’ activities and whereabouts prior to her death. It says if a member of the public recalls seeing or knows the movements of a black Chevrolet Cruz in the Shellbrook area, especially the morning of June 8, 2015, RCMP encourage them to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
