One of the country’s largest gatherings of Metis people is set to kick off tomorrow.
Back to Batoche Days runs this weekend and will once again feature square dancing, fiddling, jigging, bannock baking and several other cultural practices. Metis from across North America will be participating in the event.
Also expected at this year’s Back to Batoche festival is federal Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett. The provincial government is also encouraging people to head out to the festival this year.
The government did provide $20,000 in sponsorship support for Back to Batoche. The Batoche Heritage Site will also be the location of the re-introduced Louis Riel Relay, which will take place in late August.
