Two weeks are booked in Prince Albert court next March for a dangerous offender hearing for Leslie Black.

The Prince Albert man is guilty of attempted murder in the widely publicized violence against Marlene Bird in June of 2014. The Timber Bay woman required skin grafts and is now wheelchair-bound after two of her legs were amputated related to the burns and injuries caused in the attack.

Black’s attempts to have that guilty plea overturned earlier this year during what is called an expungement hearing were unsuccessful. His lawyer argued that Black was not aware of all the possible consequences of entering a guilty plea in this case.

Dangerous offenders are subject to strict conditions for release from prison, with the strongest designation, called “indeterminate dangerous offender” meaning a person will spend life in behind bars.

During Black’s expungement hearing, court heard his previous lawyer did not expect prosecution to succeed in having the dangerous offender label applied to Black.
