It was an emotional morning for the grandfather of a baby who was killed in Saskatoon.
Jeff Longman broke into tears outside a Saskatoon courtroom this morning just after a court appearance for the 17 year-old girl accused of killing his grandson.
“It hurts every day, every morning when I wake up, I pray to the creator that my baby is okay,” he said
Officers found six-week-old, Nikosis Jace Cantre injured at a home on July 3.
The boy later died in hospital and a 16-year-old girl was charged with second-degree murder and escaping lawful custody.
She made a brief appearance by video at a Saskatoon courtroom Wednesday morning, where her matter was adjourned to October 12th, when a plea is expected to be entered.
The Grandfather of Nikosis, Jeff Longman, says the whole court process has been very difficult for him and the rest of the family.
“It brings back the nightmare on the day it happened, it brings back that memory every day,” he said. “There’s nothing that can cure the pain on my heart from the loss of my grandson.”
Several friends and family were at the courthouse wearing shirts saying “Justice for Nikosis.”
Longman says it means a lot to see that support, but in the end, all he wants is justice.
