More than 30 people showed up for a solidarity rally in Fort Qu’Appelle last night in support of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation in its fight against a major pipeline project in North Dakota.
The rally was held in front of Conservative MP Andrew Scheer’s office because of his pro-pipeline stand.
One of the local organizers, Dana Henderson, recently returned from Standing Rock. She says the experience made her realize she has a role to play for future generations and for her own children.
“One of the main roles of women is water keepers, and as a little girl, I was taught that, but you don’t actually take that to heart until you see people actually fighting for that water,” she said. “So, I came back home and started seeing these events and said, OK we’re going to keep the momentum going.”
A similar rally was held in Regina last night where a few dozen people marched on the Albert Street Bridge.
It was all part of the international day of action, calling for the rejection of the Dakota Access pipeline.
