A Lac La Ronge trapper’s canoe has been recovered, but he hasn’t been seen for nearly two months after last being seen leaving a cabin near Key Lake Mine.
Eric Ratt was last seen on Oct. 19 at a family member’s trapper cabin on Zimmer Lake, seven kilometres from Key Lake Mine.
It isn’t uncommon for him to be away for extended periods of time, but there was cause for concern after he missed a scheduled November supply drop-off at Mcdonald’s Lake, according to an RCMP news release. Ratt was reported missing on Dec. 3.
Since then, an aerial search led to the discovery of Ratt’s canoe on the north shore of Highrock Lake. Investigators believe Ratt had left items in his canoe with the intent of going back.
Other aerial and ground searches have been unsuccessful in giving further clues about where Ratt might be.
LLRIB is organizing to begin a ground search in coming days.
If anyone has any information regarding his whereabouts, La Ronge RCMP can be contacted at 306-425-6730 or 911.
