A company owned by communities in northern Saskatchewan is expanding its operations in western Canada.
Athabasca Basin Security has bought All Peace Protection, a security company based in Grande Prairie, Alberta.
Since 1974, the company has grown to employ 150 people in a wide range of security and protection services, including security to oilfield facilities such as pipelines, work sites, campsites, parking enforcement, video monitoring and safety training courses.
Clients include companies like AREVA, Cameco, K+S, BHP Billiton and Potash Corp.
CEO Ron Hyggen says the company will continue what it has been doing, but it will be on a larger scale.
“It basically doubles our size across western Canada, increases to over 300 employees,” he said. “We are now able to increase our reach in industrial paramedic services, industrial security services and city securities.”
Athabasca Basin Security is owned 100 per cent by Athabasca Basin Development, an Aboriginal investment company, which is owned by the seven far north communities in Saskatchewan.
