A stillshot from the changeMAKERS community – Ile-a-la-Crosse video on Youtube.
The Ile-a-la-Crosse Fish Company is being held up as an example of economic success.
The northern village is featured in the new Saskatchewan changeMAKERS campaign, which was launched on Wednesday by the Saskatchewan Economic Development Association (SEDA) and its partners.
SEDA Executive Director Verona Thibault said they wanted to launch the campaign by sharing some existing economic success stories, and Ile-a-la-Crosse is an example of a community that’s planning for the future.
“It’s keeping more of that processing of the fish in Saskatchewan, expanding on the labour force, building on the natural assets, and that’s what northern Saskatchewan has a lot of,” she said.
She said Ile-a-la-Crosse’s ventures with fish processing have been on their radar for a while, as have Watrous’ business ventures and Leask’s. All three communities are featured in videos that accompany the campaign launch. The Ile-a-la-Crosse video can be viewed here.
Now, Thibault said SEDA is aiming to get submissions from First Nations, northern municipalities, and the rest of the province to be featured in the campaign, whether it’s in a blog format or video.
They’re hoping to keep the Saskatchewan changeMAKERS features going for the next few years. You can access the website here.
