Churchill Community High School in La Ronge has won $25,000 in new technology from Staples Canada for their submission to the Staples Superpower your School Contest.
The surprise announcement was made a school assembly this morning.
It is one of 10 schools from across the country to receive the award that promotes environmental awareness with the student population and community.
Principal Scott Tomporowski says the school impressed contest organizers with its three tiers of environmental awareness: school-wide programming, building initiatives and community outreach.
“We’ve had a lot of teachers do a lot of work into recycling and other environmental initiatives which gets kids out on the land and engaged into learning,” he said.
He said the students are learning more about gardening and composting and they just keep adding different things that help out the environment.
The donation is part of the Staples Superpower your School contest, which gives out $25,000 worth of much-needed technology to 10 schools across Canada annually.
Tomporowski says the students and staff will have a say in how their winnings will be spent.
“We are looking at video recording and audio recording, so we can document the stuff we are doing and creating more of a media room,” he added.
