A La Ronge vigil is planned for Sunday night in memory of Simon Grant.
The well-loved Louisiana’s Barb-B-Que owner was fatally attacked during a robbery at his business on April 15, and he later died in hospital.
The event is planned in the parking lot of the restaurant at 7 p.m. on Sunday, a day prior to Grant’s funeral which is at 2 p.m. at the Kikinahk Friendship Centre.
This comes alongside a gofundme campaign for Grant’s children and wife Cora to cover costs of the funeral, other expenses incurred, and post-secondary education for the family. It has raised nearly $2,000 in the day since it was set up, including a $1,000 donation from a single person.
“This past week has been hard for many, as La Ronge lost an amazing member of our community in a devastating way. Simon Grant was a father, husband, mentor, business owner and friend to many. Simon brought smiles to anyone he came across and lit up any room he was in- his humour, energy and generosity will be dearly missed,” wrote the gofundme campaign’s creator Katie Young
