In November, a Prince Albert court will host two separate trials related to the same death.
Victim Jonathan Lee Cowan, 23, was found dead last January after police received a report of a shooting in a downtown apartment.
It took until March for Prince Albert police to lay charges against three men, and a further month to bring all suspects into custody.
Tyler Thomas Pechawis, Reno Roy Keenatch, and Preston Spencer Dean Bird – all in their 20s – are charged with second-degree murder, and Keenatch faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Their cases have been split into two, but all men are facing trial by jury.
Pechawis’s trial is set for early November, while Keenatch and Bird will be tried together in late November.
The victim’s family and friends remain active on a Facebook page created in his memory, which includes frequent pictures of family members visiting his gravesite.
Other pictures and videos on the page show Cowan as a promising rapper and a loving uncle.
