*UPDATE – When MBC contacted Burnouf for an interview this morning, her hotel was still under lockdown. She has since been given clearance to leave her hotel room, and at last word was packing and headed for the airport.
Larissa Burnouf considers herself lucky, she had attended the first two nights of the country music concert in Vegas, but decided at the last minute not to take in the final night.
Instead, she and her friends stayed at the MGM Grand Hotel, about a block away, to play poker. At about 10:00 p.m. last night, the shooting started. Burnouf says it was a scene of panic, blood and bodies, with people running and screaming everywhere.
“You know, God forbid, that could have been us in there last night,” she said.
Larissa Burnouf is a former MBC reporter, who now works as a video journalist for APTN. She is the mother of two and is based out of Saskatoon. All she wants to do today is get out and come home.
“We just want to get the hell out of here, we have been under lockdown since the shooting and we just want to get out of here,” she said.
At last report, the MGM Grand was still under lockdown. It is about a half a block from where the shooting happened.
Burnouf says at first, it wasn’t known where the shooter was or who he was shooting at, and there were fears he was inside the MGM.
