Over the next couple of days, members of over 70 First Nations in Saskatchewan will gather in Saskatoon to pass resolutions and elect new leaders.
The fall legislative assembly for the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is set to get underway in the city Wednesday morning.
Several resolutions are set to be put forward in the morning session, while the afternoon will feature the beginning of an election assembly.
The FSIN will be electing positions of second and fourth vice-chief. The second vice-chief position will be filled by a new leader after incumbent Robert Merasty decided not to run.
Simon Jobb of Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, David Pratt of Muscowpetung First Nation and Lyle Whitefish of Big River First Nation are vying for the position.
Heather Bear of Ochapowace First Nation will be running again for her current seat as fourth vice-chief. Fenton Favel of Poundmaker First Nation and Dolores Pahtayken of Onion Lake Cree Nation will be challenging her spot.
On Wednesday afternoon, all the vice-chief hopefuls will have a chance to convince voters of their positions before the member nations hit the polls Thursday morning.
Those chosen will begin their two-year term immediately.
