Mark Arcand has been elected to be the new chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council.
He was chosen by delegates in an election held yesterday on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation.
The new chief is a member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation. He held the position of the council’s vice chief for two terms prior to this election.
The previous chief, Felix Thomas, unsuccessfully sought re-election after serving as chief for three terms over nine years.
The Saskatoon Tribal Council acts as the representative body for seven First Nations in and around Saskatoon.
