A public inquest will be held into the death of a 21-year-old man who died while in custody of Saskatoon police.
On October 23, 2016 Jordan Lafond was a passenger in a stolen vehicle spotted by police.
After a pursuit the vehicle Lafond was in crashed and police say he was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken into custody.
Lafond was then moved to Royal University Hospital after he appeared in medical distress.
He died the next day.
After the incident police did admit to using physical force on Lafond after they say he resisted arrest, but no official cause of death has been released.
The public inquest will help determine how Lafond died and will allow a coroner’s jury to provide recommendations to prevent similar deaths in the future.
The inquest will be held March 5-9 at the Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench in Saskatoon.
Justice Tim Hawryluk will preside.
