A newcomer to cabinet has become Saskatchewan’s new Minister of First Nations, Metis and Northern Affairs.
Warren Kaeding’s appointment was announced this morning as Scott Moe was formally sworn in as Saskatchewan’s premier.
Kaeding was elected as the MLA for Melville-Saltcoats in the April 2016 election and takes over from Larry Doke, who was handed the First Nations, Metis and Northern Affairs file in late August.
Kaeding, who also becomes Minister of Government Relations, is among five MLAs entering cabinet — but he is the only one who hasn’t previously served as a cabinet minister.
The other four were forced to temporarily step down from cabinet after entering the Saskatchewan Party leadership race.
• Gordon Wyant becomes Deputy Premier and Minister of Education;
• Jeremy Harrison becomes Minister of Export and Trade Development and Minister of Immigration and Careers Training;
• Tina Beaudry-Mellor becomes Minister of Advanced Education and Minister responsible for Innovation Saskatchewan, and Status of Women;
• And Ken Cheveldayoff becomes Minister of Central Services and Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission and the Provincial Capital Commission.
Two other ministers remain in cabinet but change portfolios:
• Bronwyn Eyre becomes Minister of Energy and Resources and Minister responsible for SaskWater and SaskEnergy;
• Christine Tell becomes Minister of Corrections and Policing, and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation.
Ten ministers will keep their current cabinet responsibilities.
