About two-dozen members of the Canadian Army Reserve are expected in the La Ronge area this weekend for some winter training.
Members of the North Saskatchewan Regiment will learn about outdoor survival from members of the Canadian Rangers.
Warrant Officer Mike Gilliard of the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group says the goal of exercise Vimy Storm is to pass along practical information.
“The Rangers will teach them how to build a proper lean-to that’s comfortable to survive in northern Saskatchewan in the wintertime”
he adds “they will teach them how to build fires and what kind of wood they are looking for.”
Gilliard says the Rangers will also teach them how to gather food and water and they will be doing some snaring.
People in the area can expect to see some military vehicles.
The soldiers and Rangers will start with indoor instruction and then head outdoors.
Exercise Vimy Storm is scheduled to continue until Sunday north of La Ronge at Wadin Bay.
