The chief of the Saskatoon Tribal Council is hoping a one-day event in the city Tuesday will continue to showcase the successes of many First Nation entrepreneurs.
Over 1,300 high school students and nearly 80 businesses and organizations will be on hand for the fourth annual STC Future is Yours Expo.
Every year, the expo aims to give these two groups an opportunity to network to allow First Nations youth a preview of a potential career.
“Whether that is going to university, or entering the trades…just doing something that can give them a good quality job, to provide a good quality of life, for their future families in this province,” said STC Tribal Chief, Mark Arcand.
Chief Arcand says one of the biggest factors at the expo over the years has been the many First Nation role models who have had an opportunity to highlight their success.
“Those are opportunities to say if they can do it, and they are from our First Nations, then we can do it as well,” he said.
This year’s event will feature presentations from hip-hop artist, Eekwol and former CFL player, J.R. LaRose. Both are from STC reserves, with LaRose from One Arrow First Nation and Eekwol from Muskoday First Nation.
