A 30-year-old woman accused of killing a retired educator from Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation made a brief court appearance Tuesday morning.

Late Sunday night, Saskatoon police say they discovered the body of a 54-year-old man in a downtown apartment.

The family would later confirm on social media that this was Colin Sutherland, a retired teacher from Beardy’s.

The family also says an autopsy is scheduled for some time this week.

Yesterday evening, police arrested and charged Sheritta Kahpeaysewat with second-degree murder in relation to Sutherland’s death.

Her case has been adjourned until Thursday to give her time to speak with a lawyer.

Police do say the victim and accused were known to each other.
