The La Ronge Ice Wolves held a general meeting on Wednesday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
The team reported that over the past three seasons, around $95,000 of old debt has been paid off. Something officials with the team say can be attributed to paying close attention to the finances.
“Watching where the money goes, making sure that it’s going to the right places, and watching what our expenses are,” said Brent McDougall, the vice-president of the Ice Wolves. “Doing our due diligence and making sure that we’re doing right with the money that we have.”
At last year’s meeting, Mike Bell, the team’s former president, described the 2016-17 campaign as a break-even year financially.
This past season was the first one in quite some time, where the Ice Wolves had a dedicated marketing person. The Wolves hired Terry “Moose” Hunt, who was commended for his efforts at Wednesday’s meeting.
Meantime, the Ice Wolves have not hired an assistant coach yet, but Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen says they are close to ending the search.
“Hopefully with – in all accounts, we’ll have something in place prior to the league meetings or shortly after,” said Vossen.
The Ice Wolves are looking for an assistant coach after the departure of Darren Martens, who spent one season with the club.
The next order of business for the Ice Wolves is the SJHL Bantam Draft, which is slated to take place on June 1.
