The founder of SHB Apparel is hoping her clothing line can help lead to better suicide awareness and mental health supports in the province.
Amanda Sanderson, from Saulteaux First Nation, says her mission began after seeing her daughter struggle with mental health and suicide.
“My daughter has overcome this devastating time in her life and has since blossomed into a beautiful young woman with confidence and self-worth,” she said.
It was after this experience, Sanderson says she changed the model of her business to ensure some proceeds from any clothing sales from SHB Apparel go toward funding for mental health and suicide awareness. SHB stands for “spirit of a warrior, hope for the future and the beauty of life.”
“My vision and my inspiration all started with my oldest daughter and right now it is my younger daughter who needs this support,” said Sanderson. “SHB Apparel will be that voice and raise suicide awareness for those that struggle with suicide and support those families that lost a loved one.”
Sanderson has launched an Indiegogo page to raise enough money to officially launch SHB Apparel. Her goal is to crowdfund $10,000 to launch the clothing line and provide funding for suicide awareness.
The Saulteaux First Nation mother is also hoping to organize several rallies across the province for mental health. A rally is planned for this Sunday in Saskatoon. Anyone interested in attending is asked to meet at the Vimy Memorial at 3:00 p.m.
