It’s been a sensational season so far for the Prince Albert Predators lacrosse team.
The Predators lead the Prairie Gold Junior “B” Lacrosse League with an 8-0 record. Tanner Vancoughnett has been a big part of the team’s success. The Lac La Ronge Indian Band member has 34 points through eight games.
“I just hope we come out undefeated, that would be pretty sweet,” said Vancoughnett. “My goal is just to get better every game and learn something new every time I play.”
Despite being a midget-aged player last season, Vancoughnett was the offensive player of the year for the Predators. He also played for Team Saskatchewan at the North American Indigenous Games last summer and earned a silver medal.
The 17-year-old is sponsored by the JRMCC Sports and Recreation Department. He says he appreciates the support.
“It’s really important to know that the band is thinking about you and wants you to do better, and just stay active and keep doing what you love,” said Vancoughnett.
Meantime, Vancoughnett and the Predators are back in action May 26 in Lumsden when they meet the Regina Rampage.
