The Métis Nation of Saskatchewan will be discussing some of its most pressing issues when it meets in the northwest part of the province this weekend.

The Ile-a-la Crosse Boarding School and Section 35 constitutional rights are just a few of the topics on the agenda.

Northern Region Area Three Director Mervin “Tex” Bouvier says meetings such as this one are a cost effective way of getting the organization’s word out.

“We don’t have that much money right now to go around to every community so we try to bring the communities together,” he says. “So that way, they can come together and enjoy themselves, plus we can give them some information about what’s going on in the Métis Nation.”

The meeting is being held at the South Bay War Veterans Park between Beauval and Ile-a-la Crosse.

About 150 people are expected to attend.

The event winds up Sunday evening.
