RCMP say they’ve arrested the driver of the semi-tractor, involved in the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash in April.
Mounties say 29-year-old Jaskirat Sidhu was taken into custody at his Calgary home this morning.
“Today at approximately 10 AM our Major Crimes investigators arrested the driver of the semi-trailer unit Jaskirat Sidhu, a 29-year-old male from Calgary Alberta,” Saskatchewan RCMP commanding office Curtis Zablocki said.
Sidhu is charged is charged with 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Zablocki says Sidhu remains in police custody and will appear in provincial court next week. The date, time and location of the court appearance has yet to be determined.
Police did give any details as to the evidence collected claiming that information is now before the courts. The RCMP says more than 6000 photographs were taken and 120 investigators worked on the case.
The Broncos were traveling to a playoff game April 6, when the collision occurred at a rural Saskatchewan intersection, killing 16 people and injuring 13 others.
La Ronge product Bryce Fiske and another former La Ronge Ice Wolf, Derek Patter, were among the survivors of the crash.
