Three Indigenous Saskatchewan volleyball players will be taking their talents to Olds College in the ACAC ranks this upcoming season.

Thundersky Walkingbear, Tyler Donnally and River Thomas will play for the men’s volleyball team in Olds. Walkingbear is from Thunderchild First Nation and Donnally hails from Lloydminster, SK.

Thomas, who is from Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation, says he is excited to be joining the Olds Broncos.

“It’s such a big opportunity,” said Thomas. “It all happened so fast, sure enough I ended up signing and I’m on my way with a couple of good friends.”

Olds Head Coach Ryan Marsden said Thomas will bring a lot to the team.

“River is a big player. He is tall, but also very physical. His maturity will be a welcome addition to our program,” said Marsden in a press release. “We expect River to make an immediate difference within our team. His calm demeanor on the court will help those around him.”

Thomas, who is 22, is currently a corporal with the 38 Combat Engineer Regiment in Saskatoon.

Meanwhile, Thomas will be taking open studies, Donnally is registered for sports management and Walkingbear is slated to take business and sports management.
