A Saskatoon uranium mining company is making its case to the U.S. government as to why it should not be subject to quotas or tariffs.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has launched an investigation as to whether foreign uranium imports threaten national security.
In a press release, Cameco CEO Tim Gitzel argues the company should not be lumped together with other uranium mining companies around the world.
He notes Cameco is not state-owned and is committed to the principles of free and fair trade with the U.S.
The release also says the imposition of either quotas or tariffs would greatly hurt Cameco whose total sales to U.S. utilities in 2017 was about 30 per cent.
